Greta Garbo ~ Hallywood's Mysterious Goddess

Gravestone of Greta Garbo

Unforgettable  Hollywood Actress Greta Garbo.

"If you are blessed, you are blessed, whether you are married or single".

"There seems to be a law that governs all our actions.  So I never make plans".

"Your joys and sorrows, you can never tell them.  You cheapen the inside of yourself if you do tell them".

The above three immortal quotations are of Greta Garbo.  Actually these sentences are only possible from the mouth and heart of Garbo, if you understand her life.

A mysterious life.  Arguably the best ever actress of seductive roles in the history of Hollywood movies. Her glamorous, beautiful, Sphinz-like image ~ carefully cultivated by her employer Metro Goldwyn-Mayer ~ captivated the viewers of both silent and sound film eras.  All of a sudden she left her film career in 1941 and thereafter maintained a private, reclusive lifestyle that only further enhanced her mystique.

After studying Greta Garbo's career and biography, one question always keep creeping into my mind : Did Garbo knowingly maintained her mysticism for a place in history ? So that long after her death people will still have interest in her life ?  And thus remain immortalized in the hearts and minds of people for generations to follow ?

Garbo always shunned publicity, her famous one-liner " I want to be left alone" still echoed in and around Hollywood movie studios and wherever she had been around the world. She granted no interviews, signed no photographs, attended no premieres and answered no fan mail.

Her memorable films include "Mata Hari", "Love", "Flesh and the Devil", "Anna Christie" and   "The Temptress".

Greta Garbo died on April 15, 1990 at the age of 85.  Her mystery still continues and will continue....

In that sense she is successful and  is immortal.
