Her glamorous, beautiful, Sphinz-like image ~ carefully cultivated by her employer Metro Goldwyn-Mayer ~ captivated the viewers of both silent and sound film eras. All of a sudden she left her film career in 1941 and thereafter maintained a private, reclusive lifestyle that only further enhanced her mystique.
