Kishori Amonkar

~ Queen of Indian classical music ~
Born: April 10, 1931 in Mumbai, India

When glamour and enormous talent combine, it is awesome. When she sings, just look at her facial expression. She is 100% committed to give her best rendition. Her sweet voice is ideal for such types of music. Her voice is captivating, sublime and awe-inspiring.

I specially like her thumris ( songs of longing and desire ) and bhajans ( songs in praise of God). The bhajan " mharo pranam.." by Kishori Amonkar is my favourite.

She was awarded the Padma Vibhusan, one of the highest civilian awards of India, in 2002.

One of her memorable quotes :
"I believe God is everywhere, even in my musical notes. Hence, it is important not to treat them but be treated by them".

She is a jewel of India.
